MAYOR is a real-life political saga following Musa Hadid, the Christian mayor of Ramallah, during his second term in office. His immediate goals: repave the sidewalks, attract more tourism, and plan the city's Christmas celebrations. His ultimate mission: to end the occupation of Palestine. Rich with detailed observation and a surprising amount of humor, MAYOR offers a portrait of dignity amidst the madness and absurdity of endless occupation while posing a question: how do you run a city when you don't have a country?
"Impressive. Engrossing. MAYOR is a study in politics both micro and macro, showing what happens when the two come fatefully crashing together."
Jordan Mintzer, The Hollywood Reporter
"The best new film about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a dark comedy about Ramallah’s Mayor... offers a striking new perspective on that struggle, with a personal on-the-ground quality matched by grand tonal ambitions that makes it the best of its subgenre. "
Eric Kohn, Indiewire
"Astonishing. Gripping and surprisingly witty... Osit brings a respectful approach that admirably never registers as observations of a patronizing Westerner."
Tomris Laffly, Variety
"CRITIC'S PICK. Surprisingly funny. Hadid comes across as a cleareyed, forthright leader. But Mayor also stands out because Osit has thought it through in cinematic terms."
Ben Kenigsberg, The New York Times
"MAYOR is an astounding and enthralling film... filled with a delicate blend of dark humour and unflinching honesty."
Courtney Small, Cinema Axis
"... one of my favorites of the year, hands-down — was David Osit’s hilarious and moving documentary Mayor."
Alissa Wilkinson, Vox
"Subtly electrifying... deeply affecting. A movie full of vitalizing, delicate observations."
Robert Greene, Sight & Sound
"Brilliant. Like a lost season of "Veep"... amuses and devastates in equal measure."
Stephen Saito, Moveable Fest
"Offers more absurd moments than Samuel Beckett could have ever worked up."
Arash Azizi, Universal Cinema
"MAYOR is essential viewing about the lines between small and grand acts of resistance."
B.P. Flanagan, Seventh Row
"I loved this film. I loved everything about it from its craft, to its subject to all the thematic threads. I love that this is a film that works on many different levels, that it entertains like a drama and makes you think. This is a magnificent film."
Steve Kopian, Unseen Films
"One of the Top 20 films of 2020. ...thrilling and perceptive. Essential viewing...."
Eric Kohn, Indiewire
"Outstanding...Made with irony, subtlety, and style, “Mayor” is a bittersweet lesson in civic and international politics."
Peter Keough, The Boston Globe
"Far from a message movie, David Osit’s sensitive documentary is a captivating, enlightening, and ultimately terrifying look at how to survive day by day when the fight for liberation can seem everlasting."
Jordan Raup, The Film Stage
"“Mayor” proves a unique, involving and edifying experience."
Gary Goldstein, The Los Angeles Times
"...the film is filled with a surprising amount of good humor.... At times, Mayor almost feels like a very dark version of Parks and Recreation."
Dan Schindel, Hyperalleric
"... a fascinating portrait of what city politics look like under extreme conditions. "
Chris Barsanti, The Playlist
"... the director contrasts sometimes dryly funny day-to-day bureaucratic machinations with extraordinary events to give viewers a weighty sense of the existential. "
Kevin Ritchie, NOW Toronto
"Easily one of the best documentaries of the year, Mayor straddles political commentary, verite reportage, poetry and absurdism with considerable aplomb."
Dennis Harvey, 48hills
"Mayor proves to be a remarkable achievement. Shown through the eyes of Ramallah's leader, preconceived notions about the region are undone. It's a powerful portrait of a people left in its place."
Chase Hutchinson, The Stranger
"One of the Best Films of 2020"
Christopher Reed, Hammer to Nail
"One of the 25 Best Documentaries of 2020. Osit elegantly assembles a portrait of leadership—confident, caring and above all committed to the people—that feels genuinely alien to the American experience today."

00:31:26.542 --> 00:31:27.917
MAN 3:
00:31:27.917 --> 00:31:29.250
(cell phone ringing)
00:31:34.208 --> 00:31:38.041
MUSA:
00:31:44.834 --> 00:31:48.999
(dramatic theme playing)
00:31:55.709 --> 00:31:59.542
MUSA:
00:32:19.208 --> 00:32:23.041
MUSA:
00:32:30.291 --> 00:32:34.417
KHALED (over phone):
00:32:41.166 --> 00:32:44.999
MAN:
00:32:54.834 --> 00:32:58.667
MUSA:
00:33:13.125 --> 00:33:16.999
WOMAN:
00:33:46.959 --> 00:33:51.083
(applause and cheering)
00:33:51.083 --> 00:33:54.041
MUSA:
00:33:54.959 --> 00:33:55.959
(woman 1 responds in Arabic)
00:33:57.875 --> 00:34:02.125
(woman 2 responds
in Arabic)
00:34:02.125 --> 00:34:04.166
-MUSA:
-BOY:
00:34:05.500 --> 00:34:09.291
BOY:
00:34:16.333 --> 00:34:20.166
MUSA:
00:34:20.166 --> 00:34:22.959
MAN 1:
00:34:35.500 --> 00:34:39.333
MUSA:
00:34:39.333 --> 00:34:41.375
MAN 1:
00:34:44.000 --> 00:34:47.792
MAN 2:
00:35:22.750 --> 00:35:27.083
-FARAH (over speaker):
-MUSA:
00:35:27.083 --> 00:35:28.375
(door buzzes open)
00:35:39.458 --> 00:35:43.291
MUSA:
00:35:43.291 --> 00:35:44.750
(Lulu laughs)
00:35:51.125 --> 00:35:55.125
(both laughing)
00:36:12.999 --> 00:36:16.834
FARAH:
00:36:25.166 --> 00:36:29.000
LULU:
00:36:45.500 --> 00:36:50.208
(instrumental music playing
on digital piano)
00:37:23.375 --> 00:37:27.375
(music fades)
00:37:31.500 --> 00:37:36.291
FEMALE NARRATOR (in English):
Ramallah is life,
00:37:36.291 --> 00:37:37.792
in all of its elements.
00:37:37.792 --> 00:37:39.792
nShe is a mosaic of Palestine.
00:37:39.792 --> 00:37:42.041
A puzzle
perfectly put together
00:37:42.041 --> 00:37:43.917
topaint a picture.
00:37:43.917 --> 00:37:45.500
(continues over speakers)
A home and a refuge
00:37:45.500 --> 00:37:47.000
for Palestine\'s intellectuals,
00:37:47.000 --> 00:37:49.041
writers, artists,
and musicians.
00:37:49.041 --> 00:37:52.166
Ramallah wakes up,
every morning,
00:37:52.166 --> 00:37:55.250
to live again...
00:37:55.250 --> 00:37:57.250
to thank the heavens
for another day...
00:37:57.250 --> 00:37:59.999
to resist...
00:37:59.999 --> 00:38:01.583
...to exist.
00:38:02.792 --> 00:38:04.834
(music plays
and fades out in program)
00:38:06.917 --> 00:38:10.999
MUSA (in English):
Welcome to Palestine,
welcome to Ramallah.
00:38:10.999 --> 00:38:13.792
I\'m not quite sure that everyone
00:38:13.792 --> 00:38:16.166
can imagine
what difficulties you can face
00:38:17.458 --> 00:38:21.625
as a mayor in Palestine,
00:38:21.625 --> 00:38:24.208
when you are under occupation.
00:38:24.208 --> 00:38:26.000
For example,
00:38:26.000 --> 00:38:27.250
we cannot have a sewage
treatment plant
00:38:28.041 --> 00:38:32.375
because we don\'t have control
00:38:32.375 --> 00:38:34.291
on the land
00:38:34.291 --> 00:38:38.583
that is part of Ramallah.
00:38:38.583 --> 00:38:41.709
To do it there, we need
permission by the Israelis,
00:38:41.709 --> 00:38:44.667
and there, we are always stuck
with having no permissions
00:38:45.125 --> 00:38:49.792
by the Israelis
for our strategic projects.
00:38:50.000 --> 00:38:54.083
This has to be...
00:38:54.083 --> 00:38:57.208
stopped.
00:38:57.208 --> 00:38:58.417
MAN:
So another question, Musa...
00:38:58.417 --> 00:39:00.625
What we\'re trying to do is bring
00:39:00.625 --> 00:39:03.166
Palestinians and Israelis
together
00:39:03.166 --> 00:39:05.000
to educate
the Israeli public.
00:39:05.000 --> 00:39:07.000
Would that be
something that you...
00:39:07.000 --> 00:39:09.458
...might help us?
Bringing people together?
00:39:09.458 --> 00:39:12.542
We\'re talking
not at the government,
00:39:12.542 --> 00:39:13.834
we\'re talking students,
for example.
00:39:13.834 --> 00:39:15.750
MUSA:
You know something?
00:39:15.750 --> 00:39:16.834
Is it for the sake
of negotiations?
00:39:18.834 --> 00:39:21.333
Is it for the sake of having
cameras around us,
00:39:21.333 --> 00:39:24.500
telling the whole world
that we\'re sitting together?
00:39:24.500 --> 00:39:28.000
We are negotiating?
00:39:28.000 --> 00:39:30.083
What\'s the output
of this negotiation?
00:39:30.083 --> 00:39:32.625
I would rather
reframe it and say
00:39:32.625 --> 00:39:34.500
it\'s clearly not
the right political timing
00:39:34.500 --> 00:39:36.542
to bring
both sides together.
00:39:36.542 --> 00:39:38.333
This is also something
we, as internationals,
have to recognize.
00:39:38.333 --> 00:39:40.709
It\'s not the right time
00:39:40.709 --> 00:39:42.041
to bring Israelis
and Palestinians together.
00:39:42.041 --> 00:39:44.083
Yeah, I recognize this.
00:39:44.083 --> 00:39:46.834
What I\'m wondering is,
what has to be achieved
00:39:46.834 --> 00:39:50.125
in order to rebuild trust
00:39:50.125 --> 00:39:51.750
so that
we can re-enter the phase
00:39:51.750 --> 00:39:54.000
where, for instance,
as our delegation is asking for,
00:39:54.000 --> 00:39:57.542
an exchange on the local level
could be possible
00:39:57.542 --> 00:40:01.375
...again.
00:40:01.375 --> 00:40:03.000
I mean, when we talk
about local government.
00:40:03.000 --> 00:40:05.999
The main goal for any city,
and you are from Berlin city:
00:40:05.999 --> 00:40:10.000
to improve the quality of life
for our citizens.
00:40:10.000 --> 00:40:12.583
That\'s the main goal.
It\'s the common goal, yeah?
00:40:12.583 --> 00:40:15.000
And in 2002,
the Israeli side,
00:40:15.000 --> 00:40:18.458
Israeli soldiers,
invaded Ramallah.
00:40:18.458 --> 00:40:20.333
And invaded
most Palestinian cities.
00:40:20.333 --> 00:40:21.999
Invaded Area A.
00:40:21.999 --> 00:40:24.375
And they destroyed
the infrastructure in Area A.
00:40:24.375 --> 00:40:26.750
And they demolished most
of the government buildings.
00:40:26.750 --> 00:40:30.709
And even this city hall,
00:40:30.709 --> 00:40:32.834
it was demolished partially
in that time.
00:40:32.834 --> 00:40:36.625
I will tell you
about another thing.
00:40:36.625 --> 00:40:38.417
Cemeteries.
Cemeteries.
00:40:38.417 --> 00:40:40.291
Can you imagine
it took us 15 years
00:40:40.291 --> 00:40:43.667
to get the Israeli permit
to have a cemetery in Ramallah?
00:40:43.667 --> 00:40:47.375
15 years!
00:40:47.375 --> 00:40:49.083
It\'s not a factory,
it\'s not nuclear weapons,
00:40:49.083 --> 00:40:51.959
it\'s a cemetery.
00:40:51.959 --> 00:40:53.166
It took us 15 years!
00:40:53.166 --> 00:40:54.959
The Israeli airport!
00:40:54.959 --> 00:40:56.417
We are not allowed to use
the Israeli airport.
00:40:56.417 --> 00:40:59.542
While most of us,
we travel to Canada,
00:40:59.542 --> 00:41:02.041
to United States,
to Russia,
00:41:02.041 --> 00:41:03.792
to Italy, to Germany,
00:41:03.792 --> 00:41:05.417
we can go everywhere,
00:41:05.417 --> 00:41:06.917
but we are not allowed
to go to Jerusalem,
00:41:06.917 --> 00:41:08.750
which is ten minutes.
00:41:08.750 --> 00:41:10.041
So maybe, you are asking us
00:41:10.041 --> 00:41:11.834
why you are not willing
to sit with your friend?
00:41:12.166 --> 00:41:16.750
The friendship
needs some requirements.
00:41:16.750 --> 00:41:19.166
I, of course,
completely understand this
00:41:20.750 --> 00:41:22.792
and you as a people can apply
any strategy that...
00:41:22.792 --> 00:41:26.333
I mean, you are under
occupation, you have to resist.
00:41:26.333 --> 00:41:28.667
No doubt on that.
00:41:28.667 --> 00:41:30.125
But I just wonder from
a strategic point of view,
00:41:30.125 --> 00:41:32.875
is this the strategy
00:41:32.875 --> 00:41:34.999
that will bring you
one step closer to...
00:41:34.999 --> 00:41:37.333
not only a virtual,
but a real state
00:41:37.333 --> 00:41:39.959
that is independent
and viable?
00:41:39.959 --> 00:41:42.041
You know something,
maybe I have
00:41:43.583 --> 00:41:46.041
to say it
in other words.
00:41:46.041 --> 00:41:48.166
It\'s about dignity.
00:41:48.166 --> 00:41:50.291
It\'s about dignity,
00:41:50.291 --> 00:41:51.667
and when it comes
to the dignity of yourself,
00:41:51.667 --> 00:41:54.917
it\'s not acceptable.
Okay?
00:41:54.917 --> 00:41:58.917
When we feel
00:41:58.917 --> 00:42:01.875
that we are not treated
as slaves,
00:42:01.875 --> 00:42:04.959
and they are masters,
00:42:04.959 --> 00:42:06.417
we are ready
to do everything.
00:42:06.417 --> 00:42:08.917
But when I have to take off
all my clothes
00:42:09.083 --> 00:42:13.709
in front of all the people
because a soldier
00:42:13.709 --> 00:42:16.834
of 16 years old
is asking me to do so
00:42:16.834 --> 00:42:21.166
under the threat
of his weapon,
00:42:21.166 --> 00:42:25.083
then it\'s about dignity.
00:42:25.083 --> 00:42:27.000
Yeah?
00:42:27.000 --> 00:42:28.166
And when
it comes to dignity,
00:42:28.166 --> 00:42:29.500
I think it\'s
something not negotiable.
00:42:30.333 --> 00:42:32.166
Right?
00:42:44.458 --> 00:42:48.417
(in Arabic)
00:43:49.083 --> 00:43:53.333
(music in Arabic playing)
00:43:53.333 --> 00:43:56.625
(children chattering)
00:45:30.458 --> 00:45:34.291
WOMAN:
00:45:39.458 --> 00:45:43.291
MUSA:
00:46:07.375 --> 00:46:11.208
MUSA:
00:46:19.083 --> 00:46:22.959
WOMAN:
00:46:26.917 --> 00:46:30.750
MUSA:
00:46:31.999 --> 00:46:32.667
MUSA:
00:46:35.834 --> 00:46:36.959
NANCY:
00:47:01.041 --> 00:47:04.917
MUSA:
00:47:38.792 --> 00:47:42.625
MUSA:
00:47:47.750 --> 00:47:51.542
MAN:
00:47:53.208 --> 00:47:53.500
MUSA:
00:48:09.458 --> 00:48:13.959
(local music
playing over speakers)
00:48:13.959 --> 00:48:16.875
(man yelling over P.A. system
in distance)
00:48:30.375 --> 00:48:34.166
MAN:
00:48:34.166 --> 00:48:37.917
MUSA:
00:49:00.542 --> 00:49:04.792
MALE REPORTER (in Arabic):
00:49:07.083 --> 00:49:07.709
(man whistles)
00:49:17.166 --> 00:49:21.166
(slowly exhales)
00:49:30.250 --> 00:49:34.083
MUSA:
00:49:55.458 --> 00:49:59.291
NANCY:
00:50:06.834 --> 00:50:10.875
-Okay?
-Okay.
00:50:11.041 --> 00:50:12.166
(Mahmoud Abbas speaking
in Arabic on TV)
00:50:21.041 --> 00:50:25.583
(utensil clatters
on ground in distance)
00:50:28.834 --> 00:50:32.792
(deep sigh)
00:50:32.792 --> 00:50:35.417
WOMAN:
00:50:42.959 --> 00:50:48.041
MALE REPORTER (in English):
The U.S. opening
of the embassy,
00:50:48.041 --> 00:50:50.291
and that will continue.nA royal visit coming up in June
00:50:50.291 --> 00:50:52.625
so Israelis look
at this picture,
00:50:52.625 --> 00:50:54.250
when Netanyahu looks
at the picture right now,
00:50:54.250 --> 00:50:56.166
he will certainly see this
as a diplomatic
00:50:56.166 --> 00:50:58.750
and a political victory.
00:50:58.750 --> 00:51:00.000
It\'s also worth pointing out
00:51:00.000 --> 00:51:01.041
that Guatemala and Paraguay,
00:51:01.041 --> 00:51:02.291
certainly
two smaller countries,
00:51:02.291 --> 00:51:03.792
they will also open
their embassies
00:51:03.792 --> 00:51:05.583
in Jerusalem this week.
00:51:07.500 --> 00:51:12.125
(call for prayer over speakers
in distance)
00:51:19.709 --> 00:51:23.500
MAN:
00:51:24.917 --> 00:51:27.875
WOMAN:
00:51:28.750 --> 00:51:32.083
MAN:
00:51:32.083 --> 00:51:34.000
WOMAN:
00:51:41.166 --> 00:51:45.000
WOMAN:
00:51:51.166 --> 00:51:54.999
MAN:
00:52:07.000 --> 00:52:10.999
(all laugh)
00:52:15.083 --> 00:52:19.417
(traditional
music playing)
00:53:20.500 --> 00:53:24.500
(music stops)
00:53:44.792 --> 00:53:49.375
(local jazz music
playing in the street)
00:54:00.083 --> 00:54:04.667
(in English)
You can show this country
00:54:04.667 --> 00:54:06.875
that we are not a nation
of terrorists and camels,
00:54:06.875 --> 00:54:10.542
but the land
of Jesus Christ himself.
00:54:10.542 --> 00:54:14.250
I extend to you all
00:54:14.250 --> 00:54:15.999
an invitation
to join us in Ramallah
00:54:15.999 --> 00:54:18.792
for either our next convention
or for your next visit.
00:54:19.875 --> 00:54:24.834
The city is made more beautiful
by your presence every year.
00:54:24.834 --> 00:54:29.000
Thank you for all that you do
00:54:29.000 --> 00:54:32.125
and continue to do
00:54:32.125 --> 00:54:33.750
to help us obtain our freedom
00:54:33.750 --> 00:54:35.333
and our rights. Thank you.
00:54:35.333 --> 00:54:37.542
Yeah, seven minutes.
00:54:42.375 --> 00:54:47.291
MUSA (in English over P.A.):
As Palestinian Americans,
00:54:47.291 --> 00:54:49.333
you are fluent in democracy
and self-determination.
00:54:50.041 --> 00:54:55.041
And you share a desire to carry
freedom throughout the world.
00:54:55.333 --> 00:54:59.834
I must humbly
remind you tonight,
00:54:59.834 --> 00:55:03.834
that the freedom
you enjoy as Americans
00:55:03.834 --> 00:55:07.875
is the very specific thing
00:55:07.875 --> 00:55:10.625
we are denied as Palestinians.
00:55:11.875 --> 00:55:13.333
MUSA (in English):
While we were planting a tree
00:55:16.667 --> 00:55:19.458
yesterday against bombs,
00:55:19.458 --> 00:55:22.125
the Israelis were destroying
our trees in Palestine,
00:55:22.125 --> 00:55:25.333
ndestroying our houses in Gaza.
00:55:25.333 --> 00:55:28.542
(in Arabic)
00:55:40.417 --> 00:55:45.041
(in English)
We don\'t have our own currency,
00:55:45.041 --> 00:55:47.999
we use the Israeli shekel.
00:55:47.999 --> 00:55:50.166
We cannot visit the sea,
00:55:50.166 --> 00:55:52.500
which we can see
from our hilltops.
00:55:52.500 --> 00:55:55.999
We cannot visit Jerusalem,
00:55:55.999 --> 00:55:58.333
which is ten miles away.
00:55:58.333 --> 00:56:01.999
We can not build
a sewage treatment center
00:56:01.999 --> 00:56:05.625
without
the permission of Israel.
00:56:05.625 --> 00:56:08.834
We are surrounded on all sides
by Israeli settlements,
00:56:08.834 --> 00:56:13.417
which are illegal
under international law,
00:56:13.417 --> 00:56:16.709
and these settlers use
what little resources we have
00:56:17.041 --> 00:56:21.041
with impunity.
00:56:21.041 --> 00:56:22.917
Please come to Palestine,
and see this for yourself.
00:56:22.917 --> 00:56:26.750
(applause)
00:56:27.291 --> 00:56:29.208
(lively chattering)
00:56:31.417 --> 00:56:33.542
MUSA (in English):
I think we have to think about
00:56:33.542 --> 00:56:35.041
something in common
between our two cities
00:56:35.041 --> 00:56:38.125
in order to make
this relation very active.
00:56:38.125 --> 00:56:40.583
Are there possibilities in terms
of choirs or theater groups?
00:56:40.583 --> 00:56:44.166
Yeah, why not?
00:56:44.166 --> 00:56:46.333
Because those are things
that work very well
00:56:46.333 --> 00:56:48.125
-in terms of exchange.
-Yes. Yes.
00:56:48.125 --> 00:56:50.999
-Yeah.
-Football teams and...
00:56:50.999 --> 00:56:54.208
(chattering continues)
00:57:10.000 --> 00:57:13.875
(quiet)
00:57:40.542 --> 00:57:44.542
(birds chirping)
00:58:03.375 --> 00:58:08.041
(classical piano music
playing over speakers)
00:58:08.041 --> 00:58:10.375
(turns up volume)
00:58:14.375 --> 00:58:18.999
(traditional music
playing over speakers)
00:58:55.999 --> 00:58:59.834
MAN 1:
00:59:22.125 --> 00:59:25.999
MAN 2:
00:59:25.999 --> 00:59:27.166
MAN 1:
00:59:40.583 --> 00:59:44.417
MUSA:
00:59:44.417 --> 00:59:47.999
MAN:
01:00:05.750 --> 01:00:09.542
MAN:
01:00:27.333 --> 01:00:31.166
ABU AWS:
01:00:35.792 --> 01:00:39.583
ABU:
01:00:57.917 --> 01:01:01.750
WOMAN:
01:01:06.875 --> 01:01:11.875
WOMAN:
01:01:13.125 --> 01:01:16.959
MAN:
01:01:18.667 --> 01:01:20.000
MUSA:
01:01:31.041 --> 01:01:34.875
MAN:
01:01:53.667 --> 01:01:57.500
FARAH:
01:02:04.999 --> 01:02:08.834
MUSA:
01:02:08.834 --> 01:02:10.834
LULU:
01:02:12.583 --> 01:02:15.834
FARAH:
01:02:19.166 --> 01:02:22.999
WOMAN:
01:02:23.375 --> 01:02:25.959
(clears throat)
01:02:27.375 --> 01:02:28.792
FARAH:
01:02:28.792 --> 01:02:31.250
(music playing on TV)
01:02:45.000 --> 01:02:50.417
CHRIS SHIP (in English):
Prince William was promised
a different perspective
01:02:50.417 --> 01:02:53.625
from this side of the border,
01:02:53.625 --> 01:02:55.709
and that is today what he got.
01:02:55.709 --> 01:02:58.000
And what a different life
01:02:58.000 --> 01:02:59.667
is lived here than in Israel.
01:02:59.667 --> 01:03:02.792
And where yesterday,
William met
01:03:02.792 --> 01:03:04.375
Israeli political leaders,
01:03:04.375 --> 01:03:06.291
today in Ramallah,
he met Palestinian ones.
01:03:06.291 --> 01:03:08.750
N\"I hope that your next visit,\"
said Mahmoud Abbas,
01:03:08.750 --> 01:03:11.542
the Palestinian President,
01:03:11.542 --> 01:03:13.041
\"will be in the state
of Palestine
01:03:13.041 --> 01:03:15.166
when we have
our full independence.\"
01:03:15.166 --> 01:03:19.583
PRINCE WILLIAM:
The story of the Palestinian
people is so often told
01:03:19.583 --> 01:03:22.375
only through the lens
of difficulty and conflict.
01:03:22.375 --> 01:03:26.333
But there is another story,
01:03:26.333 --> 01:03:28.208
which I was privileged
to witness today.
01:03:28.208 --> 01:03:31.500
This afternoon in Ramallah,
01:03:31.500 --> 01:03:33.166
I saw an unforgettable display
01:03:33.166 --> 01:03:35.125
of Palestinian culture
and hospitality.
01:03:35.125 --> 01:03:39.000
I\'m also struck by
how many people in the region
01:03:39.000 --> 01:03:41.208
want a just
and lasting peace.
01:03:41.208 --> 01:03:43.834
This is only too evident among
the young people I\'ve met.
01:03:43.834 --> 01:03:47.333
These are not extravagant
aspirations,
01:03:47.333 --> 01:03:50.208
but the same aspirations
of people everywhere
01:03:50.208 --> 01:03:52.208
in the world.
01:03:54.291 --> 01:03:58.208
ABDULLAH:
01:03:58.208 --> 01:04:00.041
MUSA:
01:04:01.542 --> 01:04:03.291
ABDULLAH:
01:04:18.542 --> 01:04:22.375
MUSA:
01:04:50.542 --> 01:04:54.500
MUSA: Wow...
01:05:00.583 --> 01:05:04.834
(in English)
Too much!
01:05:09.917 --> 01:05:13.792
(laughs)
01:05:17.375 --> 01:05:21.458
MAN (in distance):
01:05:23.458 --> 01:05:27.792
(several people chattering
in distance)
01:05:41.250 --> 01:05:45.792
(new age music
playing over speakers)
01:06:43.125 --> 01:06:47.417
FEMALE REPORTER (in Arabic):
01:07:29.000 --> 01:07:33.083
WOMAN (in Arabic):
01:07:33.083 --> 01:07:36.959
MAN:
01:07:36.959 --> 01:07:39.291
WOMAN (in Arabic):
01:07:39.291 --> 01:07:40.583
(in English)

01:07:40.583 --> 01:07:42.166
(ambulance sirens blaring)
01:07:46.917 --> 01:07:51.000
(people chattering)
01:07:51.583 --> 01:07:53.083
-MAN 1:

MAN 2:
01:08:04.792 --> 01:08:07.834
MAN 3:

(loud gunshot)
01:08:10.625 --> 01:08:11.834
(people clamoring)
01:08:11.834 --> 01:08:13.458
(small explosion nearby)
01:08:33.792 --> 01:08:37.875
(explosion nearby)
01:09:17.834 --> 01:09:21.750
(gunshot)
01:09:40.083 --> 01:09:43.959
MUSA:
01:09:54.542 --> 01:09:58.542
(phone beeping)
01:10:00.000 --> 01:10:01.083
(in English)
