Promoting streaming collections
I participated on a panel with three media librarians at the 2014 Charleston Conference back in November title “You’ve Licensed It. Now What?” The panel was a practical one, emphasizing strategies for promoting streaming media. The theme was something along the lines of “if you build it, they won’t necessarily come”, and the need for libraries to actively promote the availability of streaming video in the collection. This problem is related to any new media, not specific to streaming video.
The panel featured Sarah McCleskey from Hofstra University, Christine Fischer from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Steven Milewski from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I provided a vendor / publisher viewpoint. Each panelist provided a different perspective, and different sets of strategies for promoting content.
