Drag Invasion

View on the Pragda STREAM site

In 2017, dozens of drag queens from RuPaul's Drag Race descended upon Lima, Peru, performing to sold-out audiences month after month. What began as entertainment soon evolved into a cultural movement that mobilized, energized, and empowered the Peruvian LGBTQ+ community in ways that were previously unimaginable. In a country deeply rooted in conservative, religious, and homophobic traditions, this unexpected phenomenon sparked discussions on identity, visibility, and resistance.

Through in-depth interviews with performers, activists, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, the film offers an exploration of how global pop culture intersects with local socio-political landscapes, raising critical questions about cultural imperialism, identity politics, and the role of art in social change.
