Humaita is a small town nestled in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, with just one inhabitant per square kilometer and no fewer than six bus companies. The most renowned among them is “Siquiera,” a business owned and operated by Luis and his son, Léandro. They are the sole daredevils willing to venture onto Highway 319, often considered the worst road in Brazil.

Their mission began after other companies abandoned the route due to its many challenges. This road is slowly sinking within the depths of the Amazon rainforest, but nothing can deter these resilient individuals. When the road is dry, the journey takes 18 hours by bus, but during the wet season, it extends to a grueling six times that duration. At such times, the region receives more than two meters of rainfall, making it impossible for solo travelers to risk the journey without the prospect of getting stranded for several days. Navigating this treacherous path requires skill, and sometimes even luck. Vehicles are compelled to travel in convoys, yet it remains a nightmarish ordeal.
